Summary
The first month Mu Qing waited anyway, like an idiot.
The second month Mu Qing felt broken, like a jerk.
The third month Mu Qing would have liked to turn all three kingdoms upside down so irritated he was but he had managed to maintain some balance even though there was absolutely nothing balanced about him. It was from the ritual and his connection with Hua Cheng that he felt like something was missing directly from his own spiritual core.
On the fourth month he decided to lock himself in a cave in his own cultivation place and regain some control. When he returned home he felt better but not as good as he used to feel before. Barely more in possession of his own lucidity.
Then, more than a month later, Xie Lian had made him aware that Hua Cheng had borrowed the Zhanmadao pieces from his armory the night before. The balance he had painstakingly achieved had gone to hell in the space of an incense.

He heard Hua Cheng moving along the hall bathed in silence, footsteps echoing in the air, his presence impossible to ignore even when he was doing absolutely nothing, E'Ming was docked at his side, shorter than his original form, his eye closed, his essence pulsing softly even as he slept.
Mu Qing barely looked up to watch him arrange for the umpteenth time the display cases of ancient swords he had collected for Xie Lian over the centuries. Hua Cheng also took very seriously the task of taking care of the armory on behalf of his husband.
If there was one thing he had always found fascinating about his strange and unlikely and distorted romantic relationship with Hua Cheng, it was the peace he could enjoy in being in the same room with him, together, but without having to feel the need to have to fill the silence between them. It was not a nervous silence or one of discomfort, but a comfortable silence.
