Summary
Buck rocks the crying baby in his arms, tears gathering in his own eyes. Every hiccuping sob is like a knife to his heart.
The loft is dark and still around him, the creaking of the glider and Carter’s cries the only sounds. His neighbors must hate him right now, in this nebulous time after midnight and before dawn.
He can’t do this. This was—
He can’t do this.
Holding Carter against his shoulder, he fumbles his phone out of the pocket of his sweats and swipes it on, going to his contacts. It rings for what feels like an hour before Maddie picks up.
“Buck? What—”
“I shouldn’t have done this,” he interrupts, the guilt of calling her in the middle of the night washing away in the relief of hearing her voice. “Maddie, I shouldn’t have done this.” He’s aware of his growing hysteria but lacks the energy to tamp it down.
OR: Buck feels overwhelmed after deciding to foster a baby boy. Luckily, he has Maddie--and Eddie--to help him out.

Summary
What do you do when you're the sole clueless observer of a grief response gone wrong?
What do you do when you stumble upon the fragments of a ghost's memories and possessions squirreled away and haunting your home?
What do you do when you blunder into the ability to harness the power of thinking and speaking someone back into begrudging form?
I knew you, Eddie thinks. I KNOW you. I believe in you. I need you. Come back.

Summary
Type-A-Thon rolls his eyes – rolls his eyes! – and holds up the phone, shaking it for emphasis as his mouth falls into a thinly pressed line. Eddie finally gives in and lets his gaze drop to the brightly lit screen in front of him.
DEAF
Eddie blinks, his eyes rising to meet the man’s amused gaze. The man turns his head slightly, just enough to expose his ear, and it takes Eddie less than a second to realize that the “Airpods” aren’t actually Airpods.
The man has hearing aids.
It’s right then that Eddie almost wishes those bullets had done their job in Afghanistan.
Nice going, Diaz, he thinks dryly. He can almost hear Abuela’s tutting in his ears as he mouths, “Sorry.” The man just shrugs and smiles that adorably shy smile at him again.
Dios, he’s screwed.
--------
Or, the one where Eddie is a barista, Buck is his new favorite customer, and the 118 is way too nosy for their own good.
Now rewritten!
