Summary
“What did you do?” Jonathan asked.
“Jonathan!” Nancy shot back, noticing the dejected look on Steve’s face, like he was ready to burst out in tears.
“Not die, I guess? He’s pissed that Eddie’s gone and he’s stuck here with dumb ol’ Steve Harrington,” Steve responded as he looked down at his feet.
This takes place in Season 5, when Steve, Dustin, Nancy & Jonathan are at the lab, right after Steve & Dustin's fight. None of the melting stuff happens, but everyone's mindset is basically the same, except that the teams split up going left and right instead of upstairs and downstairs. Steve & Dustin are arguing and Nancy & Jonathan are close to breaking up. It doesn't happen in this fic, but you can imagine it happens shortly after. Dustin finds Dr. Brenner's notes but takes them with him and will decipher them after the fic.
