What he felt was colder than that precise, immediate, undeniable. The moment he noticed Wu Suowei, something in his mind aligned, as if a missing piece had quietly locked into place.
Wu Suowei stood close to Guo Chengyu but not comfortably, always half-guarded, always listening for danger. His smiles were careful. His laughter rare. He looked like someone who survived by being alert.
"He doesn’t feel safe in the world" Chi Cheng thought. "That makes him vulnerable"
The thought didn’t alarm him. It settled.
Wu Suowei stayed in Chi Cheng’s mind long after he looked away. In silence. In routine. In the spaces where control usually held. Each casual touch from Guo Chengyu sparked a quiet, ugly irritation.
"You don’t know what you’re holding" Chi Cheng thought. "You don’t deserve it"
When Wu Suowei laughed once open and unguarded Chi Cheng felt something tighten sharply in his chest.
"That shouldn’t be free" he decided. "It should be contained"
Chi Cheng was not reckless. He was patient.

Summary
