“Do you think I’m a joke?” Leona spits, a deep growl rumbling in his chest. “A fucking child? You can’t just dismiss me like that!” He clenches his fists, sets his feet, and shakes Malleus. Actually shakes him.
Malleus is so utterly taken aback that he lurches forward a step, bringing the two of them chest-to-chest. Leona doesn’t appear to notice. His heart is so loud in Malleus’ ears. The blood is coursing through his veins like hurricane-force winds. He is trembling.
“Wherever did this come from?” Malleus tilts his head. “I simply came to commend you on a dignified defeat.”
Leona glares up at him, eyes almost completely black. Behind him, his tail sways from side to side like an angry cat. “I hate you,” he hisses. “I won’t take this shit from you, no matter who you think you are!”
Oh. Malleus’ eyes go wide, and if his pupils could change shape, they would surely be blown round as well.

“It’s fine,” Floyd had told him with a light shrug, but Jamil was not satisfied with this. He was determined now. He will prove he’s such a good boyfriend that Jade will just HAVE to like him. Floyd finds his determination humorous, but Jamil promises he won’t be laughing once he succeeds.

“Of course, you are more than welcome here, for as long as you’d like.” is Emma’s instant and smooth reply, delivered with an effortless aplomb that is well-suited to her Chief Councilor role; there’s no hiding the sharpness of her eyes, however, that intelligent glint that speaks of veiled suspicion and careful calculations. “Any friend of Maelle is a friend of ours.”
As expected, Maelle is more than ecstatic by Emma’s easy acceptance, but her mood quickly plummets when she spots Gustave’s less-than-thrilled expression: if looks could kill, Verso is pretty sure he would be lying in a pool of his own blood by now, but after some uncomfortable staring the man just scoffs and looks quickly on the side, cheeks flushed by what Verso can only presume is a good dose of barely repressed anger. “...Sure, whatever. If that’s what Maelle wants.”
(After making a promise to each other at the Canvas' edge, Maelle restores Lumiére to its former splendor, and Verso tries to live his life in it as simply and unobtrusively as possible.
Too bad that Gustave absolutely hates Verso's guts, and Verso's blossoming feelings for Gustave are of a complete opposite nature.)

To the Cleaners, their bond doesn’t make sense— they don’t know, likely won’t ever know what they went through together, how Jabber initiated and Zanka, in an unhinged rush of stress, pain and desire, met him halfway.
They’re too similar not to have ended up like this, he thinks bleakly. Maybe it was bound to have happened, one way or another.
After the loop, Zanka recovers. But recovery is not a steady slope, and before the healing process can begin, all infected areas must be purged. The question is: once all the ugly bits are cut away, how much of Zanka really remains?

Summary
Zanka’s breaths are short and wet– he’s not long for this world. Without his mask and with that gaping wound in his chest, anyone can see that he’s not going to survive more than another minute or so. Jabber sits beside him, giddy with anticipation as he waits for Zanka's inevitable death.
Jabber gets trapped in a time loop where Zanka dies, over and over. It doesn't bother him- he loves the look on Zanka's face as the light fades from his eyes- until he comes to a few realisations about himself, and then it really, really does.

“What are you getting at, Semiu?” Enjin sighed, dropping his head backwards to look at Semiu upside down.
“I want to know why,” Semiu said, looking down her nose at Enjin. “It doesn’t make sense to me.”
