Author's Summary: A prequel/interquel story for Guilty Gear that focuses on Potemkin and his childhood, life as a slave-soldier, and his relationship with Gabriel.
Author's Notes:
FOREWORD
This story is something that's been stewing in my brain for years in one form or another. I think it ultimately stems from an ancient fanfic (still up on FFN by the way) that novelizes Guilty Gear: The Missing Link. The chapter expanding upon Potemkin's backstory is really strong, but I remember there was one element of it that stuck out to me like a sore thumb, despite the story's attempt to adhere to canon wherever it could: Potemkin has a wife and child in it. Now, I dunno if you've ever read the essay "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" before (if you're going to look it up right now, it's NSFW, so don't say I didn't warn you), but it discusses the problems with the physical end of having children if you have super strength, and while it ironically doesn't apply to the Man of Steel himself, it should apply to Potemkin, who can't control his strength. And that thought was basically the genesis of this whole story. Super strength seems like an awesome power on paper, but only if you can control it. Potemkin doesn't have that luxury, to the point of needing reinforced pencils, and adding on to that, there's the lore tidbit that his mutation is still making him stronger with or without his input. Of course, that also logically means he wouldn't have been as strong when he was younger, and that's a little unsettling to think about, because it implies he had to grow into not being able to hold a pencil without breaking it.
After some time spent writing, this story grew from a simple exploration of a character's youth and background to a chronicling of his journey to manhood. I didn't originally anticipate it would be this long, but I kept adding more and more under the pretense that I needed more in-universe time to flesh out the character development and make all of the dots connect from my mental impression of Potemkin's depressing youth to what we actually see in the games.
This is the first time I've actually completed a writing project of this size, fanfiction or original fiction, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. Despite it being a Guilty Gear story, I really wanted this to stand on its own, and I wrote it with the intention of feeling like a complete, self-contained story from front to back.
I hope you enjoy it.
My comment:
Just finished everything in one sitting, it is nearly 4 in the morning, more good to say later, but this is amazing.
Edit: finally came back after years, and made a proper comment, but it's way too long for the comment box.

Summary
Mira didn't misread Rumi as closeted and went forward with the original confrontation as planned
Zoey didn't figure anything out (or if she did, she didn't act on it)
Rumi just took a good, hard look inward and decided that this wasn't working anymore. She needed to tell the truth, even if it cost her her life
(But please don't let it come to that)Bookmarked by SomeonetookMeep

(See the end of the work for more notes.) And finally, the first chapter of the fic that made me want to make an AO3 account in the first place is up!
Shoutout to both Hindsight and Foresight by BigFigNewton and KoiFishSwimming respectively. I'm going to copy Koi's note in spirit and say that I'm a different writer than those two so this story will develop differently from theirs - but I may or may not reference events in them from time to time (not in any way that requires reading them first to understand anything, just cheeky little shoutouts here and there). Hope you enjoy!
My comment: OhOh! Oh, very good! Felt tension in self as reading. Loved the feeling of building up before even going out, and the extra added through talking the other things before the big reveal, and even consideration of other reactions in the clothes. Also very much enjoyed the lore making of the honmoon weapons with effect on the hunters plus giving Rumi that extra risk even day to day training, while lightening the risk on Zoey blocking the weapon right to Mira's Neck. Very glad to have followed from the tumblr post.

Summary
So maybe Zoey wasn't always the most perceptive person when it came to other people. She was smart though, and the clues had started to add up. They'd been adding up for years, and Zoey had been keeping notes. Sixty-two ideas had slowly been narrowed down into five final ideas.
The last option seemed absurd, but everything pointed in that direction. Rumi was a demon.
It's the night following the awkward signing with the Saja Boys, and Zoey know it's time for she and Rumi to have a talk. She'd come to the right conclusion, but that didn't make this any less difficult. Dealing with Rumi's secret was a lot, but they'd tackle it together.
New Rumi. New Zoey. New day.

Summary
Foresight Chapter 7 Extra:
“Where do I–” Mira started, but then shook her head, “Who do I pick, Zoey?” She asked, her voice pinched with worry.
“Go with her.” Zoey said, jerking her head slightly in Rumi’s direction. She couldn’t be there for Rumi right now. She wasn’t the right person, and she needed to honour Rumi’s request for space. Zoey could still see how much Rumi needed someone, and who better than her best friend? The woman who could put them both back together.
There wasn't a guidebook for guiding your best friend through your other best friend's confession, but Mira was determined to make it work. No matter what Rumi decided, she would be there for her. Zoey, too. Both of them.

For KoiFishSwimming.
Inspired by Foresight by KoiFishSwimming(See the end of the work for notes.)
I was heavily inspired by Chapter 7 of Foresight and really wanted to see what the Mira and Rumi conversation must have looked like. I am not qualified to define demisexuality, or even how Rumi feels, but I hope that at the very least, I have captured some of that in this fic. Thanks for reading! Kudos and comments are appreciated as always! And if you haven't already read Foresight… what are you doing? Go read it now!
My comment:
This fic felt really nice? Like I was really peacefully enjoying the flow through it. Often/usually I'm these tense sort of conversations I get all jumpy and hopping with it but your work was just so soothing to go through, even with subject that feels so ready to explode with stress.I loved the open-ness, and feeling so much. The free talking about relationships/love while being kinda uncertain. And the vibe bit of the conversation in this one, I wish I had more of friends directly on the same wavelengths, but no interest in each other for relationship situations.
The dialogue really went well for me, it gave those full steps and splits for me not just going right over, which I really enjoyed.
Wish to throw down more, but not sure amount left in my head right now -

Summary
Based on a premise by fakelawyerbug on tumblr: https://www.tumblr.com/fakelawyerbug/805367916099960832?source=share
"What if Miyeong lived, but was a deadbeat mom with horrendous postpartum depression?"
Miyeong finds herself with an unwanted pregnancy and denies denies denies until it's too late. When she sees Rumi's patterns, she shuts down. But both Miyeong and Thirdlight find that they are too squeamish to kill a baby themselves, and ask Celine to "fix this". Celine interprets "fix this" as "throw my reputation on this grenade and claim the baby is mine, then quietly raise her on my own". Much to Celine's regret, the honmoon still chooses Rumi, and she has to go get trained by the Sunlight Sisters Duo.
Knowing (more or less) the score, Rumi is not delighted by the duo's treatment of her Real Mother (Celine) and is a real pain in the ass about it.

What if Miyeong lived, but was a deadbeat mom with horrendous ppd?
Miyeong intends to have a one night stand, finds herself with an unwanted pregnancy and denies denied denies until it's too late. When she sees Rumi's patterns, she shuts down, but both Miyeong and Thirdlight find that they are too squeamish to kill a baby themselves, and ask Celine to deal with it.

Author's Notes:
Zoey (desperate to secure a safe position in a new family by policing its borders): Can you imagine doing something like that?
Mira (thirsting for the kind of love that would choose her over everyone else): Yeah. Can you imagine.
My Comment: (written as of 10/?)
Ah, oh this has been wonderful!
I fear my comments won't be as great as some of it has blended, but I have loved this so far, from the few on Tumblr, and now going full posted fic! (So much easier for me to keep up this way) This has been so nice and wonderful. Bits of fun, and some pain, with some fear but feeling somewhat light? I keep feeling like the blender is about to turn up to max.Silly detail, but love the chapter titles especially chapter 8 (Woman Sortof Curious What Her Last Straw Will Be) little bits that are the perfect balance between shitpost, and serious, and gives the perfect level of detail to know in advance for the chapter ahead.
I really like the ways that you have the differences in character, but also how it goes giving a nice step away from the standard.
Also with that, the last chapter?? Being ready to fight the girls? Don't share the strategy? The earlier mentioning of only having the one teaching them as well, and why? Pretty much the only fic so far getting me genuinely curious and wanting to know more Pre-SLS.
Kinda silly, but really like the thought process of Zoey, and also separately the writing of ideas/thoughts and their formatting (match?) (truly, all of these girls are fucked up in their own ways!) from more note of the Huntr/x I love how you really showed them in their along, but dissonant, partially connected, but not truly together, and the way it was really harmed with the Celine talk (oh the not real, and background even if not Celine, imagine.)
(actually, I think it might've been seen a bit, and it's fun, but where did the SLS fandom (+ toxic DLC) Zoey come from? I feel like I've seen it a decent bit, but I also know half of it might've just been expanding the joke of calling Celine a milf.Byeong-Ho, Chesa, and Hana? I love how you have the names and clear easy to recognize and easier to not actually miss (while I've gotten good at reading third light as a name, your unique names definitely make it better to recognize desperately.) (I think the only one I've seen before in a kpdh fic was Hana, but works so well!)
