Summary
“I don’t know what I want to do.” Dennis admits. He looks over at Robby, staring at the side of his face. They’ve been closer than this before, but being in the car together feels strangely intimate. “What would you do?”
“If it was me… I’d at least go for that dinner. But I’m not you. You need to do what’s best for you, Dennis.”
There it is again, his name from Robby’s mouth. It makes his attention linger, still staring at Robby’s face. Dennis is once again overwhelmed with the urge to just bury his face in Robby’s neck and pretend the world doesn’t exist, but that’s not the grown up thing to do. He squeezes his eyes shut for a second, rubs his temples with his fingertips as Robby continues, “Carry your patients with you as much or as little as you like. Find your balance. But remember that you’re human.”
Dennis opens his eyes to the countryside fading away and the city bleeding in. He knows Robby is right. That’s what he needs: balance.
In his last year of med school, Dennis learns to let go of the guilt that plagues him.

Summary
He’d just started poking at the strip of mild sunburn on his forehead, which he’d got from walking home, when his phone buzzed on the sink, and it almost ended up in the open toilet bowl as Dennis jumped at the sound of it vibrating against the porcelain. He scooped it up, suddenly and strangely self-conscious of his shirtlessness as he pressed the button to answer the call he wasn’t aware he was going to need to have, pressing it to his sweaty temple as he closed his eyes and murmured, “You made me jump.”
“I did?” Robby sounded relaxed. He probably was splayed on his couch. “Sorry. I forget that people of your age are frightened by phone calls. I can hang up and text you, if you’d prefer.”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Dennis said, tucking the phone into his shoulder as he fiddled with the button on the jeans.

Summary
The first couple of dollars that the machine ate up without remorse were an annoyance, something that made Dennis sigh and unzip his wallet without thinking about it to try again. By the time that the vending machine had eaten seven whole dollars, in coins, and Dennis didn’t have anything to show for it, he was close to thumping his forehead against the cool glass and hoping he could derive some sort of enjoyment or nourishment from simply just looking at the colourful packages as they remained firmly in their coils.
He didn’t often carry coins. Those were his last few dollars and he was woefully aware that somebody had offhandedly mentioned that the staffroom vending machine destroyed notes, so he wasn’t going to be getting a soda, a bag of chips or anything else that might settle his belly from the incessant grumbling it was doing.
~
5 times + 1 that Robby buys something for Dennis and makes him feel like he's about to keel over, right there and then.

Summary
James Wilson has had feelings for his best friend for years, whether he realised recently or not. It's probably fine, not like they can come to the surface anyways. Nothing like a cramped hotel room at a work conference to push things to the breaking point between them, and to bring old secrets to light. Who knows if they'll make it back in one piece.
Set anytime towards the end of the second season.
