Summary
He tries to reach out for the body that should be snuggled next to him, the one that he’s found close and often recently, but his hand reaches for cold sheets. He opens his eyes a little more, searching for tussled blonde hair, but he finds nothing. Instead, there is an indent where someone once was.
He clings to it, the warmth lingering on his fingertips and getting rid of the chill on his skin.
But, ultimately, it’s not what he’s looking for.

It’s a familiar ache.
It aches like when honey eyes meet blue ones, when a warm arm wraps around his shoulder like shelter in a storm, when David has to resist the urge to poke dimples from a bright smile, when a voice so deep and resolute turns soft and smooth when it’s used towards him.
And then he’s coughing again, and when it stops, there is an identical petal right next to the previous one.

He opens his locker to get his notebook for the next class. The combination is drilled into his brain at this point, effortlessly turning the lock where it needs to go. He reaches for his book, determined to just get the day over with when he notices a sticky note on his books that he did not put there.

Summary
“What’re you doing here?” Exer’s voice is hoarse and it does something to David’s stomach that he does not want to address. He swallows, thinking of what to reply. He could tell him the truth, that his dad is an asshat, which wouldn’t be surprising. He cannot think of a lie. He does not want to lie anyway, but he feels that the truth is heavy and worrying.
“I didn’t want to be home, so I left,”

Summary
Exer is overreacting. He knows he is. He’s being stupid, again, and letting his emotions get the best of him.
But, god, Exer wanted so badly to take David by the hand, shout to everybody in the world that he was Exer’s, nobody else’s, and no one else could have him, and storm away with his boyfriend by his side.
Luckily, Exer has enough self-control and contained his annoyance.
