“Lohen,” he rasped, the name torn out of him like a prayer and a wound all at once. His mouth barely shaped it before his eyelids fluttered, the sound falling quieter the second time, softer and more helpless. “L..l..Lohen…I’m..s..so..sorry..”
The name lingered on his lips as if it had nowhere to go now but out of him. Illuga’s fingers curled once in the sand, and then all the strength drained from his body at once, as though the Abyss had waited until he was home-adjacent before finally taking its final toll. His breathing stuttered, his head tipped forward, and he collapsed fully into the shoreline with a faint exhale that disappeared into the sea wind.
The surf kept coming. The sky stayed bright. Nasha Town, with all its iron rails and scrap-built towers, waited beyond the border as if nothing had happened at all. And there, half-conscious in the salt-stung quiet, Illuga passed out with the name on his tongue, as though even in unconsciousness some part of him was still reaching for home.

Lohen slowly lifted his head.
Illuga stood there, battered, apologizing to him with that same infuriating steadiness, red eyes burning with concern instead of fear, and for the first time in his life, Lohen looked at someone and felt the terrifying certainty that he did not want to look away.
‘Why does he matter?’ The thought struck him hard enough to steal his breath, because suddenly the sight of Illuga standing there felt unbearably important, like losing him would carve something catastrophic through his ribs.
His chest existed and emotion crashed into him so violently he almost staggered. His knees nearly buckled beneath the force of it, one trembling hand still pressed over the frantic rhythm in his chest as if he could contain the avalanche happening inside him. The emptiness that had haunted him his entire life fractured all at once.
Warmth.
Curiosity.
Wonder.
Happiness.
A dizzying, unbearable fullness spread through his body until he thought he might collapse from it.

The first time Lohen saw Illuga, there was blood everywhere.
Wild Hunt beasts crawled from the fog like rotting wolves stitched together wrong, screaming as they charged through the ravine. Knights of Favonius archers held the ridge while the Lightkeepers fought below.And in the middle of it all stood Illuga.
Geo constructs shattered beneath claw and fang while he drove his spear through a beast twice his size, dragging a wounded Lightkeeper behind him with one arm. His coat was torn, face smeared with dirt and blood, golden eyes sharp and furious.
An alpha.
A terrifying one.
Lohen, who had spent years carving through monsters without fear, felt his omega instincts slam into him so hard he almost missed a kill.
“…Oh no,” he muttered while kicking a Wild Hunt creature off a cliff.
One of his fellow knights blinked. “What?”
