Summary
Right now all John could think about was the pain in his jaw, fever-bright and stinging, enough to leave him lying on his back on the floor for a moment. He turned his head and spat out a stream of blood, but a prod around his mouth with his tongue told him he wasn’t missing any teeth. “Nice to see you too.”
“You bastard.” Arthur was on him in an instant, grabbing John by the front of his coat and dragging him up off the floor, only to slam his back into the nearest wall. Several things fell off a nearby shelf and shattered, but thankfully John didn’t give a damn about any of them. “What the hell is wrong with you, huh?”
In the quiet, lonely moments, when John had envisioned a reunion with Arthur, he had always pictured the older man being angry–how could he not? John had left, abandoned the gang and a woman with a newborn, and as far as Arthur knew, he’d fucked off because he was afraid of being a father.
That was just about the furthest thing from the truth, but Arthur would never, ever know the truth.
Not if John was still breathing to keep it away from him.
(AKA the AU where John never came back to the gang after he "ran away"... and everything changes because of it.)

When Ogata was a child, he'd always keep an eye on the sky, watching for storm-grey clouds overhead.
He liked the rain, liked the after-dew, and even though it scared away the game, he liked the thunderstorms, too.(Sugimoto and Ogata play a game of cat-and-mouse, only here, there are no winners or losers.)
