The spell took the name. The city took May. Skip took the apartment and taught Peter the price of existing. Tony has a daughter and a wife and a hole in his chest that wasn't caused by the reactor. They kept crossing. Collapsed overpass. Dock fires. Post-snap recovery missions in the city. “Stay on my left, webhead. I don’t know why, but that’s your spot.” Then Morgan gets taken and Peter decides the real family is the only one that matters and when half the universe came back, he shouldn't have come back with them.

Summary
Everybody thinks the hard part is that May died. The hard part is what her past boyfriend taught Peter first, and what Tony does with a boy who will not believe love shouldn't come at a cost. Tony Stark takes in a grieving eighteen-year-old Peter who still lives with the ghost of May's abusive ex in the way he doesn’t eat and the way he apologizes for existing. Tony loves Peter and is terrified he will fail at being a dad, so instead he offers Peter independence, an apartment and a job instead of saying "stay". Peter hears "grow up" and "I don't want you as family" and wonders what the price of Tony's love is.
