Ace splits off from the others to find and save Krypto. But is doing the right thing always going to hurt?

He’s turning 39 this year but he was born on the 29th of February. His brothers always teased him about not having birthdays.
It’s been over twenty years and he’s worried that they’ve forgotten his birthday. Or worse they know it’s his birthday and not celebrating it to spite him as they know there is no 29th.
In reality they have planned a surprise birthday for the first of march. The brothers had forgotten they’d usually celebrate it on the 28th instead of march the 1st because it was still feb. So JD didn’t think they were celebrating it.

In the 20+ years of isolation John Dory has learnt to control his emotions to be able to shift in and out of being a grey troll. Why has he done this? Well it was a survival tactic he spotted chameleons and other animals using. They change their colours in order to hide or appear dangerous.
John Dory had become skilled in changing in and out of a grey troll to hide from predators but it's not very useful when you want to be normal for your brothers. He finds it exhausting to be cheery all the time for his siblings. He wants to be happy but it isn't like anyone is actively making it easy for him.
