Katsuki raises an eyebrow. The foot tap. The pout.

He scrubs a hand down his face.
No. Not cute.

You’re detaching, he reminds himself, mentally slapping his own forehead. You are emotionally detaching like a well adjusted adult who absolutely did not give the guy you’ve been in love with for years an insane gift at a Christmas party to force a reaction.

Despite his fever, just being around Kacchan is enough to recharge him a bit. Izuku loves him like nothing else. Maybe he wasn’t able to spoil Kacchan for his birthday the way he wanted to, but at least he learned something new and important about Kacchan, and now he feels that much closer to his boyfriend. They’ll make this work; there’s plenty of other ways Izuku can show Kacchan how much he loves him.

Summary
Izuku originally had resolved to put this issue behind him, but that all changed yesterday, when the second half of the year’s hero ranks were announced, and Izuku was at four while Kacchan was at five. Izuku hid his face in Kacchan’s shoulder and cried, both out of happiness and accomplishment for himself, and out of confusion and frustration for Kacchan.
Izuku can’t ignore it anymore. Not with such an incredible jump in rankings after only six months. Not when the only thing that changed was Izuku coming back onto the scene.
