Common superstition in Zaun had it that there were five bad luck days in a year. So at the end of the year, you kept your head down, so Fate wouldn't notice you and make certain you had more than your fill of bad luck. Viktor couldn't say he believed it on a logical level, but still he followed the tradition - it just felt plain wrong to do otherwise.
Only this year, he had a Partner who was more than willing to take those same days off, and abandon his own traditions to do math in Viktor's apartment with him. Because to Jayce, what was a dizzying cavalcade of new year's parties next to five days at Viktor's side?
Risks are not to be taken. Changing the parameters of Partnership was a risk. How do you survive five days in close quarters, under those two truths?

Summary
Argus' life was a largely thankless one (unless you counted the thanks of the paintings he maintained), working on keeping a thousand year old castle from falling down around the ears of students who didn't care. He had his cat, his work, his books, and a constant boil of self hatred and resentment to get him by.
And then a sixth year handed him a letter from her aunt, thanking him for acting as conservator of Hogwarts and calling him Dr. Filch. It was the first time he had been called Doctor since he started at the castle. He had little choice but to write back, after that.

Sometimes, when Jaskier said he loved him, Geralt's eyes were veiled with disbelief. Which was fine, he'd just get to court him again to prove his point.
Until he realized that Geralt didn't disbelieve his love, just his intention to stay. That was going to be harder to prove, it turned out.

Camila always dreamed of having a big family. She came from one, Manny came from one; they were in agreement that they wanted a whole bunch of kids.
Things didn’t work out that way. Manny got sick and that became the focus of Camila’s life. She tried to shield Luz as best she could, but Luz was growing up, growing wiser every day; she could see the dawning horror in her daughter’s eyes, the knowledge that Manny wasn’t getting better.
Manny died holding her hand and their dreams of a huge, loud family died with him.
Fate had other plans.

It is shameful fantasy and nothing but to desire Edward Little the way he does. Thomas, more fool him, will take that secret to his grave.
