Lace can’t help the fond smile that spreads across her face. Despite the greys and the lines in her face, her Ma is still her Ma. “I’m not here to be the hero or tell stories.”
“Not even if they come with free drinks from cute people at the tavern?” asks Ma with a wink. “Or did the mysterious Rook you write so much about finally catch your heart completely?”
“Ma!” says Lace, indignant.
Ma just laughs, the sound merry and ringing. More of the tension Lace has been holding onto for so long leaves her as her Ma laughs. A few heads turn in their direction, but they quickly return to their work.

He wasn't going to make it home.
It was a bitter truth that sat shallow on his mind. In a way, it should bother him more than perhaps it does, but long gone was any sense of actual emotion, far too drowned out by the trauma that's burrowed in deep. And he was tired; so very tired that he could barely wrest his eyes open and his chin came on down to rest against his chest, rising ever so softly with breaths that were far too weak and shallow.

Summary
Wild was an enigma for many reasons, with the most noticeable being his hero's title. Or rather, lack thereof. That was not to say that he didn't deserve to hold the title of hero, for he was just as courageous as the other 'heroes.' No, Wild lacked a title on account of the fact that his purpose had yet to be fulfilled.
Unlike the other heroes, Wild hadn't defeated a great evil, or saved a princess, or even overcome some personal hardship. He was a kid, whisked away from his land in the middle of his knight training. After just under a year of traveling with the heroes from his story books, Wild was pulled back to his own Hyrule to finally earn his name.
Months passed by without word on his condition, with hope of Wild's return slowly shrinking in the hearts of the other heroes. And once all hope had faded away, they found themselves in a Hyrule of ruin.
And Wild’s name began to make sense.

Zelda had requested his assistance, so Link set out to learn what he could to about these strange new threats. Encountering heroes from the past was a surprise, but it gave him hope to have friends by his side.
He did his best to hold onto that hope, but that is harder than it should be when his first impression isn’t all that great.
When all is said and done, Link - Wild - must decide if the Heroes of the Forgotten Past are worth opening up to.
