Summary
Rhaegar Targaryen ascends the throne after the deaths of his father and sister-wife. While he has four strong brothers and a young daughter, his throne is far from stable. Lords clamor to marry his brothers to their daughters, and many have set their eyes on Rhaegar himself. To the west, the kraken chafes against its bonds to throne and mainland and to the east, rumors spread of a rising Blackfyre threat . . . all while Rhaegar wonders at the Song of Ice and Fire he discovered as a youth in the ruins of his family's home, and the need for three heads of the dragon to come forth to confront an ancient threat.
But until his own throne is secure and his heir is born, Rhaegar cannot confront the greater threats the plague his realm. A gathering of dragons makes a rumbling, reverberating thunder, the prelude to the lightning and storms ahead . . .
A re-imagining of Westeros where Rhaella’s children survive birth and Aerys dies a Duskendale. Some of the dates are moved, to account for all these events, and some women are alive because I want them to be.

The first in an AU series dedicated to developing minor characters of the historical ASOIAF universe (mostly Targaryens).
Vaegon Targaryen is the spare's spare, third son of the Conciliator and Good Queen Alysanne. Remembered as a dour, bookish boy who became a maester, but in his life he was much more: desperate to please his parents, eager for any lesson he could acquire, a constant companion trailing in his brother Baelon's shadow. But in all of this, Vaegon was a prince of sorrow, the prince tragedy. Injured before he learned to joust, unable to claim a dragon, and sent to the Citadel by his concerned father, he was an unwanted prince who never found love and chose knowledge instead.
How Vaegon became the man in the histories, because he wasn't always the disaffected archmaester.
Note: I'm playing fast and lose with canon and will eventually share a work with changes in things like age, birth year, living children, etc. Until then, you've been warned
