Summary
The first shiver curled up her spine like fire, crawling through her muscles and making her knees buckle. Her lungs burned with every ragged breath, and a pressure rose behind her eyes so intense it felt like they might shatter. Bones creaked and shifted unnaturally. Her fingers were stretched into sharp claws, her ribs bent unnaturally and every tendon screamed in protest. Rumi collapsed onto the floor, her teeth gnashing as fur erupted along her arms and spine, prickling, itching, spreading in angry, hot waves.
Faintly she registers that she is lying in some back alley, and not confined in the safety of the basement like usual. No chains to hold her down, no steel door to prevent her rampage.
