His vision blurred as he looked at the horizon. The sea swelled around him, burned red and gold, night retreating reluctantly like blood from a treasured sword.
The world came back to him in bits and pieces, and he waited, futile, for three things that would never return.

A flurry of activity echoes around the Heavenly Court.
“The Marshal of the Central Altar—slayer of chaos, vanquisher of ten thousand demons—kneels before the Jade Throne! The three realms are pacified, the broken kingdoms are unified!”
“You have done well. What will you have as your prize, Vanguard General?”
Li Nezha raised his head. A little white dragon coiled around his wrist chirps cheerfully, uncaring of the solemn nature of this ceremony.
“The Huagai Star Official.”
Then, as if unsure if he made himself clear, the war god stands, gaze steely. “I meant to say, his hand in marriage.”

“As if you could force me to do anything.” Nezha snaps. Li Jing does not loosen his grip, even as they get closer and closer to the healing chambers “You've tried before, you know how difficult I can make your life."
“Why are you so infuriating?” Li Jing growls. “I’m giving you words of warning.”
Nezha finally pulls away. “Your warnings are not wanted.”
Li Jing does not grab him, but does lean closer. “Yes, but clearly they are needed if you insist on acting so foolishly, especially in front of the council.”
“They are in a difficult position with me.” Nezha responds, not daring to look at his father as he speaks. “I was merely giving them the answers they needed to make the proper decision.”
Li Jing stopped. Nezha still did not look up. “Decision to do what?”
Nezha does not answer.
His father growls. “Nezha, decision to do what?"
OR- After the death of the Jade Emperor, Nezha is convinced he must pay the price; and if no one else is willing to see that then Nezha will take matters into his own hands.

Seen as the demon bastard of his village, Nezha is sent on a quest to redeem his character. It was supposed to be simple. Rescue the maiden, marry her off to the viceroy, collect community service points, and done. He really didn't think one mission alone was all that it took to unravel his past, present, and future like an onion. When a cursed princess swamps him under a horde of secrets, he is faced with two choices; accept fate...or fight it.
*A story loosely (or largely) based on good ol' Shrek with some other Disney influences sprinkled here and there for giggles.
