Summary
The humble truth is that Robert Robertson III has never had a real Christmas.
Not a real one.
He’s celebrated the holidays, obviously, in a variety of different ways, but even when he thinks about it, the truth is… he hasn’t, actually.
His father was never home, not over Christmas. He’d always be out as Mecha-Man, saving the world, protecting people, his present to Robert being nothing more than staying alive.
Robert might have had a proper Christmas once, but without his mother, and with his fathers total inability to care about anything other than the future of Mecha-Man, they never had a tree, never had any decorations, really Christmas wasn’t so much as acknowledged because what would be the point? He didn’t remember it anyway.

"Shit baby," Alice said almost exasperatedly as she flopped onto the couch that her husband was already sitting on. She wasn't in her work outfit anymore, having changed into a tank top and shorts, her hair out and untamed. Herman's sympathies fluttered for a moment, her costume must've been so stuffy and uncomfortable in this weather, he himself having already changed into an oversized cyan shirt and shorts.
"It's hot as fuck in this bitch!" She was mad, performatively mad, but still mad. "How much longer it gonna be like this?"
Herman checked the forecast on his phone and winced.
"...about 2 weeks."

Summary
Robert isn't afraid to say that his favorite part of SDN is Royd's lab.
Well, maybe he's a little afraid. He shudders to think of what the Z-Team would do if he ever admitted out loud that they were anything less than the reason he woke up in the morning. For a team of former super villains, they have surprisingly fragile egos.
But the lab feels like home in a way nowhere else does. The smell of soldering irons and spilled coolant eases the tension from his shoulders, lessens the tightness around his rib cage. It reminds him of the rare cool days in the deepest winters of Torrence, when the air is cool enough to show his breath during a morning run. For just a moment, breathing is a little easier.

Robert spends his lunch break working on the mech with Royd. He gets a outside opinion of events in his childhood.
