"The people who keep showing this on national TV are worse than clingy exes," he says. "It's been two weeks! Everybody moved on. Television people always cry about losing watch-time since streaming went global, like, geez, I wonder why."

For some unfathomable reason, the camera shifts even lower, showing off the curve of Childe's throat and the cut of his jaw. Scaramouche is so outraged he sputters in his seat.

"Why the fuck would anyone want to watch this?"

Lumine snorts. "For the same reason you haven't switched channels yet."

He throws the remote at her face.

Or, Scaramouche's lived his whole life stuck to the global platinum band called The Harbingers. When he finally severs the ties, he is suddenly propulsed into another, lesser-known band that's everything the Harbingers was not: warm, kind, and infused with bubble gum pop.

In parallel, a minor indie celebrity who's orbited around him for years crash-lands into his business and categorically refuses to leave.

Tartaglia Childe is a pain in the ass. Simultaneously, the first person to ever slip so far past Scaramouche's walls.

“I’ll bring her back in one piece.”

“You won’t.” Scaramouche’s reply is almost automatic. “But I’ll fix her anyway.”

Childe exhales through his nose, lips twitching into something that might’ve been a smile. “Are you always this bad at pep talks?”

“Only with drivers who don’t listen.”

Scaramouche starts to walk off, tablet tucked under his arm, shoulders tight beneath his fireproof jacket. The noise of the garage fills the space he leaves behind; air guns, radios, the churn of generators. It should be enough to drown everything out.
But Childe leans forward just enough to call after him, and for a heartbeat, the distance between them feels less like hostility and more like gravity.

    “I listen. To you, anyway.”

That makes Scaramouche stop. Not turn, just pause. His back rises and falls once, slow.

“Then do me a favor,” he says, barely audible over the hum of the pit wall, “and finish the race.”

    Summary

“Don’t worry. You’ll be back with your owner soon,” Wanderer whispers softly and presses his lips to the cool glass, which makes the Vision glow a bit brighter for a moment.
It’s probably a bit weird how readily it responds to him – almost more enthusiastic than his own – but after so many nights Sethos spent pouring his energy through the Vision into Wanderer’s body, its touch feels familiar and welcome. He keeps stroking it, sharing its longing for Sethos, until the dawn starts coloring the clouds on the horizon.

    Summary

Sethos cannot be trusted. Wanderer knows this, and yet, inexplicably, he finds himself opening up more to this Temple of Silence liaison. He knows, but is drawn evermore into those piercing green eyes, and sly smile, and the way he holds everyone at arm’s length while keeping them close as can be. He's interesting, he’s impressive, and Wanderer wants nothing to do with him while knowing everything about him. He hates it. He hates even more that he is going against his better judgment when he falls for him.
