Summary
And yet... there was sincerity in his voice. The fear in his eyes was genuine; his body language uneasy and far unlike the graceful air he put on during the day.
Was it not the duty of the Ilmatari to lend an ear and a hand to the suffering regardless of who they were? To be a kind face in a sea of scowls?
Aasimar are put into the world for a reason. For Althea, that reason - she was told - is to spend her eternity serving Ilmater, the patron god of the abbey that raised her. Never to let the horrors of the outside world corrupt her. When the churches of the Triad decide to help the city of Elturel recover from its descent into the Hells, she is finally given a chance to use her cleric powers.
What she found instead was a planes-spanning plot involving mind-flayers, a dark cult, and the ghost of an old lover.
Oh, and a haughty vampire spawn that she promises to help free from an eternity of slavery to a cruel master.
It's that last one that really gets her...
