The prince shook his head sharply, eyes burning. Part of him wanted to beg Merlin to do it, to find a way to live through the morning’s flames and hold on until Arthur himself was king and could set the warlock free — but even as his heart longed for the possibility, it cringed at the price of that future.
“Is there no other way?” He asked. “Is there nothing else I can do for you? I would leave with Leon, unlock the doors and let you walk free, consequences be damned, if only you would actually go.”Merlin's magic has been revealed, and Uther has sentenced him to death. Before his execution, Arthur visits him in the dungeon to free his manservant -- one way, or another.

Summary
Arthur knows Merlin is keeping details from him about the whole situation with Sophia and her father. The prince is having flashes of memories and nothing matches up to what Merlin told him happened. He decides to get the truth out of him one way or another and in the process forces Merlin to confess to having magic. Rather than burden Arthur with the responsibility of keeping his secret, Merlin chooses to confess to the king and accept his punishment. He will not ask Arthur to choose between him and his father.
