Summary
Ilya Rozanov has been drafted by Boston, the number one pick overall, but his father doesn't want him moving to America and so takes steps to block his visa. He's going to have to go back to Russia and stay there forever and that, thinks Shane Hollander, is wrong.
It's so wrong that Shane can't stop himself from doing something about it. Even though that something is the most reckless, the only reckless thing he's ever done in his life. He marries Rozanov in secret, to keep him out of Russia and put him on a path to Canadian citizenship.
Shane's got a five-year plan to get him there and when you have a plan nothing can go wrong. Right? Right. When you have a solid plan and a marriage that's on paper only there's no risk of feelings getting involved. Not on Rozanov's part and certainly not on Shane's.
Right???

Shane scratched the back of his neck. “Rose, uh… she figured it out. Us. Our history. All of it.”
Ilya turned his head slowly, disbelieving. “Figured it out?”
“To be fair, you and I weren’t exactly subtle in Montreal,” Shane said, sheepishly.
Ilya huffed, scowling.
“So, she knows.” He swallowed. “Everything?”
“I mean, not all the gory details,” Shane said, shrugging. “But enough.”
There was a pause long enough for the surf to swell and retreat twice.
“And? What?” Ilya asked finally, jaw tight. “She is… disgusted?”
Shane actually snorted. “Uh. No.”
“No?”
“No,” Shane said again, dragging a hand down his face. Then, half-laughing, “She, um. She thinks it’s fucking hot.”

Or, in essence, what if Rose clocks Shane and Ilya in Montreal, she's like, I want two boyfriends and I want the boyfriends to be boyfriends, too. God gave me two hands for a reason.

Summary
“Marley.” Ilya says evenly, suddenly knowing he can actually breathe. He had a plan and he knew what he needed to do. And he couldn’t do it from the locker room bench. “If he is very injured, if he cannot play again, if he is very bad, I will kill you. I will kill you painfully.”
Cliff gapes at him.In which the hit that Cliff Marleau had on Shane Hollander goes a little different. For one, they’re in Boston. For another, Ilya realizes he might be panicking? Which is probably not something to do in the middle of a game. And, oh yeah, he just outed both himself and his not-boyfriend to an entire locker room of hockey players.
But that’s okay, because while Boston may be vicious, they do take care of their own. And they quickly realize that their captain’s happiness and willingness to stay with the Bears is tied to Shane Hollander. The solution is easy, they’ll just have to make Shane Hollander a Bear.

A day or two after Ilya tells Shane about his mother's passing, Shane remembers something he said to Ilya on a rooftop 8 years ago and spirals.
Ilya has too much to hide, but Shane sees right through him.

“Ilya… I am so sorry,” he practically whispered. He couldn’t look at the other, too ashamed and embarrassed by his younger self and his willingness to joke about something so important.
“Hey,” Ilya said softly. He placed his hand under Shane’s chin, trying to get him to meet his eyes but Shane shook him off.
“Don’t say it's okay, it's not okay,” he shook his head. “I never should have said something like that.”
Ilya shook his head, looking around as if the walls could help him with an answer but came up with nothing. He clenched his jaw and sighed.
“No, is not okay,” he agreed. Shane looked up so fast Ilya wondered if he had gotten whiplash. “Maybe not okay, but it is forgivable.”
