He’d just set it back down when the door opened, and a shadow appeared in front of him, taking the seat across from him. Jackson’s name was on his lips as he rose his gaze from his drink, but the word stuck in his throat, because it wasn’t Jackson.
“I’m really sorry, can you be my boyfriend?” Derek asked breathlessly, panic on his face and looking seconds away from losing his shit.
Stiles didn’t even have the chance to reply, because the second he saw crazy lady walk into the coffee shop, he just immediately leaned over the table and planted a kiss right on Derek’s lips. The other man seemed startled, but he recovered quickly and brought one hand up to press against Stiles’ cheek.
He made sure to keep the kiss short, and relatively chaste, because this was all for show and he didn’t want to make Derek more uncomfortable than he already was.

“He’s like, my second best friend,” Stiles amended. “It’s fine, we’ll figure it out. Right?” He turned to grin at Derek, who was scowling at him.

It made sense; Derek was a leather wearing emotionally constipated sourwolf who had a dead family and an psychotic killer ex-girlfriend and had only stopped being a complete dick to Stiles and actually including him in things a couple of months ago. He didn't even know why Stiles had agreed to this date in the first place.
“But I don't! I really, really don't.” Derek's eyebrows shot up from their previously broody position at Stiles' somewhat desperate tone. “I just... there's been some, uh, complications.”

He pressed into him on the floor, nose to nose, chest to chest, as Stiles struggled. Derek intertwined their fingers when Stiles tried to hit him, pressed his face into the crook of Stiles’ neck when he tried to crack their foreheads together, interlocked their legs when Stiles tried to bring them up underneath Derek to throw him off.
“Why?” Stiles’ voice was vehement now, unforgiving in its capacity. Derek lifted his head searching and searching Stiles’ eyes for… he didn’t know what for.
But he found it.
