“I have a favour to ask,” Joe asks, and it feels the same as it did earlier when he had to thank Toye for telling him he could smell heat on him. He wants to grit his teeth against it, he resents it so much.
“Okay…” Web says after a second, when Joe doesn’t continue.
Joe sighs, rubs a hand over his face. He almost wishes he’d had Winters ask for him, but he’s not a coward. “I’m about to go into heat. I’m on suppressants, but I guess they’re not fucking working right. Winters said I could pick a partner.” There. That’s the pertinent information; Web can make an informed choice.
Web just blinks at him for a second, and Joe wonders if he’s actually going to have to fucking ask, and then Web shrugs. “Okay,” he says. “Now?”

Webster’s supposed to be doing a piece for the school paper. Joe’s supposed to be keeping a low profile. Neither of them is very good at doing what they’re supposed to.
Or: That AU where Spider-Man is a pissed-off burnout with too many responsibilities, and the school’s most uptight honors student accidentally falls for him… twice. Both literally and figuratively.

Eugene’s eyes were faraway in church, farther still whenever a well-meaning friend showed up at the door to ask him how he’d liked Europe, how glad he was to be back. He flinched when a neighbor fired off a shot at a duck or a gator and woke up in harsh, grating sobs that Maud could hear through the wall in the night, that she thought might break her heart in two.
And then, one day, he stepped through the door at dinner time, and he wasn’t alone.
