“I’m Ayan.”
The name seemed to settle in the quiet space between them with an odd sense of inevitability. Akk hesitated before responding.
“…Akk.”
Ayan’s smile widened slightly.
“I know.”
He said it so naturally that Akk found himself momentarily uncertain how to respond. Then Ayan added, with an almost playful softness:
“P’Akk.”-
There were mornings when Akk would arrive at school and find himself unconsciously searching the courtyard for a certain familiar figure. There were moments when he would hear laughter from across the hallway and feel his attention drawn toward the sound before he could stop himself. It was a gradual transformation. So gradual that Akk did not see it happening. But Ayan had already become a constant.
