At first, Arthur wanted nothing to do with John. He left on his own accord, he can go be wolf food for all he cared. Besides, cleaning up after that idiot was not his responsibility. But one look at Abigail crying, with her newborn baby in her arms, broke something in Arthur's heart. Next thing he knew, he was saddling up Boadicea and following John's trail.
Days later, his searching led him to the snowy Ambarino region. There he meets a beautiful fiery tempered woman who knows how to live off the land, and takes no crap from anyone. The moment she called him out for staring... he was already under her spell.

“What should I do then, Ser Barristan?” Jon asked with despair.
“Stand by your family, wait for Lord Stark.” He counseled. “And remember your vows.”
Ser Barristan had once been his hero, now not one of his words could bring him any comfort. Unbesought, Jon’s fury flared back to this knight in white, as shining as dawn. “As you stood beside Mad Aerys when he murdered my grandfather? My uncle? How idly did you stand then, ser? How straight was your back?”
He might as well have slapped him in the face. Barristan the Bold turned back a step. He spoke flatly, “Still, you and your family are in my prayers.”
“You may keep them to yourself,” Jon told him. “I was a bastard before I was a knight. And I remember my vows.”
