You shook your head, but gave him a smile, trying to soothe his worries, the ones you could see lingering in his eyes, your heart a fluttering bird in its cage. “It’s fine, it’s not work. It’s just…have you ever felt like you’re missing something?”
His eyes were looking through you again, or trying to at least. They felt so deep, and you wondered if you could drown in the bleeding pools, if you would ever let yourself be ensnared in the redness until it encompassed all of you.
“I keep going. I work. I go on with my life, but it always feels like something is missing, like I lost a part of myself and I can’t get it back,” you continued, voice getting lower and lower, eyes getting lost in the dreams and feelings that had felt so real, but couldn’t be.

She winced at the loudness of his voice.

She stared at him, mouth agape.
Sorry, what was that he just said? Was she dreaming? Was she hallucinating? Had Sebastian Sallow really said that he loved her? Her? Complicated, chaotic, haphazard her? Even if her brain couldn’t quite process what she was saying, her heart had certainly understood. It was battering against her ribcage so firmly that she swore it would no sooner burst out of her chest.

When she first resigned to the pitiful fact that she was very likely in love with Sebastian Sallow, she had accepted her fate. Doomed to suffer in an unrequited love she held for her best friend. Too bad it took almost dying to realise that maybe the feelings were mutual.

That's when he remembered the last thing he remembered: it wasn't the building facade falling outward and descending toward him, leaving no time or room to escape. It was the way he closed his eyes and smiled with every bit of faith and trust that she would save them all because she always did, and he'd given her the final opening she needed, and everything would be ok.
He realized, there in her unyielding arms that locked him against her shaking chest, what his sacrifice must have cost her. What maybe it always cost her when he threw himself into danger with reckless abandon because why the hell not? Losing was never an option, so he always did whatever it took to win. He never thought about the toll it might have been taking on her because, after all, HE was the one desperately and hopelessly in love and clearly the less critically strategic member of the pair, and he was just her friend...right?

From the pages of the advertisement, Adrien smouldered in a way that he’d never done during any of his other numerous photographs, and yet she was struck with a familiarity that made her skin tingle, made her swallow with sudden and surprising nervousness. She was sure she’d seen that expression somewhere before. A pair of green eyes looking at her like that, with an unknown question in his hungry gaze. She’d seen that smoulder before.
In which Adrien loses a bet and becomes an underwear model, Marinette loses her mind, and the whole fiasco starts a fire which might lead to the pair discovering their identities.
