Summary
Xiao reaches over in the darkness, feeling for the charging cable trailing from his phone on his bedside table. He runs his fingers along the cord and tugs, causing the phone to drop into his hands and light up. He squints — yet another assault on his senses.
He flicks through his apps and opens YouTube for the third time tonight. He ignores the recommendations of kittens playing with string and horror movie reviews, instead opening his watch history.
The first video, titled Wunsch, is a black screen with white lyrics in some serif font or another. Even just the moment before he clicks on it allows his features to soften, a sliver of his stressors falling away in anticipation of a mere five minutes of low quality sound. Still, no other song can beat this particular plucking of strings and the smooth hum of a lilting voice.
He clicks. Closes his eyes. Waits.
But it never comes.

The door flies open almost immediately. His mother stands there, eyes wide and mouth slightly agape. She looks as if he hadn’t already told her he was coming, as if the last phone call he made to her less than 24 hours ago never happened. He hunches his shoulders and braces himself for her ire.
She pulls him into her arms and squeezes tighter than a woman of her stature should be able to.
“Oh, Kenma,” she coos, holding his head close as if to protect him from the world. “Oh my baby, my boy, light of my life.”
And for the first time since he was 10-years-old, he cries in his mother’s arms.

A new comment pops up and a surge of happiness fills Alisa. The likes are great, but it feels much more special when someone takes time out of their day to compliment her with more than a single tap of a heart. She skims it, ready for her smile to grow bigger.
She groans.
“Why is it that every time I post, someone has to request I collab with Karasukyun?”
Miwa spritzes some hairspray on the wig’s bangs which barely move despite the disturbance. “Because you two like the same shows and games and always happen to wear matching cosplays.”
Alisa slouches in her chair and types in the username of her arch nemesis into the search bar. Karasukyun. Age: 23. Pronouns: she/her. Location: wherever is causing the pain in Alisa’s neck.

The idea of touching Lance – a myth by some accounts, a legend by others, a rarity by all – makes Keith feel like he would be breaking some sort of ancient law. He adheres to Lance’s advice and stays seated, settling with the knowledge that some treasures are just meant to be observed. Admired. Loved from afar.
You don’t love him, Keith admonishes himself.
Tonight, he can convince himself he’s right. But after weeks of Lance becoming more comfortable – shedding more clothes as he swims through placid waters, even showing off his tail once – Keith realizes he is wrong.

Felix has made his peace with Sylvain chasing after everyone with a pulse—peace, in this context, being redefined as has learned to tolerate the stabbing ache in his gut, to the point that he doesn’t notice it unless he thinks about it too hard, like an exposed nerve you learn how to live with—because he’s always known none of them really matter. It still sucks. It still feels like a kick to the chest sometimes, cracked ribs and short breath. But it’s survivable, because none of them have phone numbers Sylvain has memorised, like Ingrid’s, or birthdays he could recite half-asleep and drunk out of his mind, like Dimitri’s. None of them get to see the way Sylvain smiles when he means it, that crooked thing that slips out on Claude’s kitchen floor at two in the morning, like Felix does.
(These are the facts of the universe: water is wet, the sky is blue, and Sylvain Gautier will never want Felix Fraldarius.)
