Summary
Those first weeks, John thought about Sherlock nearly every minute of every day.
Everything in the flat, every cup, every paper, every strange little artifact would bring on an ache in his chest so deep, so crushing, that he’d have to sit down and force himself to breathe. He hadn’t realized just how embedded his life had become in Sherlock’s, and how incredibly painful it would be to dig it out, piece by jagged little piece.
So John put it all away — every piece of glassware, every strange stone, every paper—carefully, lovingly, and locked the door behind him.
John finds the best way to deal with loss is to pretend it none of it ever happened. Out of sight, out of mind, you know. Until the things John thought locked away start to turn up.

John looks at him with a confident smirk. They’ll get away because they always do, and Sherlock’s not yet found a situation he couldn’t think or charm or lie his way out of.
And even an hour later when their captors come back and it starts all over again, when John looks at him with a sparkle of mirth from the eye not swollen and blackened and covered in blood, he assumes he’ll manage it this time too.
