He could feel the tiredness washing all over his exhausted body and maybe that was exactly this tiredness or maybe something else that took control over his body when without even thinking he lifted his hand and reached out for her, his body acting against his mind, his fingers gently skimming across the skin on her cheek before they tangled into her hair, slowly brushing the strands away from her face.

There was no gravity, no force, no push when they both made yet another step, a step that was meant to be their last one, and their bodies finally collided. Their hands found each other, with hunger, almost with relief, fingers lacing together, the soothing feeling of skin brushing against skin. His hands cupped her face, thumbs gently caressing the skin on her cheeks, just like he always did, almost like with that gentle gesture he was claiming her his and only his.

Maybe she should thank him. Thank him for making the hard choice for her, be grateful that it wasn't her who had to be the bearer of the bad news, that it wasn't her who had to decide. Yet no matter how much she tried to justify that, no matter how much she wanted to believe that he did it all in good faith, no matter how strongly she understood his motives - it still hurt. It hurt to be betrayed by the person she cared so much for.

This missing moment is about the two of them taking care of each other, having important conversations, and realizing that protecting and trusting are not necessarily mutually exclusive.
