    Summary

The memories aren’t fully fleshed out, only flashes of places, people, and feelings. Sometimes they’re tangible, so much so he feels like he can reach it within his fingertips and hold them there.

He’d be washing dishes, and he’d feel the phantom arms of Eddie around his waist, the junction of his neck and shoulder feeling warm. For a flash, he’d see a different kitchen than the one he was in. He’d be looking at a menu in a restaurant, and he thinks he’d hear Eddie’s voice asking, ‘You gonna order the usual?’ When he glances down at the table, he’d be surprised he’s not seeing a deep green tablecloth. He’d doze off on the couch and feel his cheek land on Eddie’s chest, arms wrapping around him, and he’d open his eyes to find himself alone.

How do you explain that away? Missing something you can’t fully remember having?

    =

Or, Evan Buckley wakes up without eight years of his memories with some guy named Eddie Diaz on his bedside. Which could mean nothing.

"Truce," her dad croaks. He is slumped on the kitchen floor. He's clutching his beanie, which has vomit on it from wiping his mouth. He looks pale, frighteningly so, and he says her name like he might be dying.

That, above all else, is what scares her.

Or, Phoenix falls ill, and thirteen-year-old Trucy is stuck spending the day with someone she doesn't trust.

“Beacon County Sheriff's Department, this is deputy Mahealani speaking.”

    “Oh thank god!”

    “Stiles?”

“I, uh, I need some advice.”

    “Advice?”

“Yeah. So, hypothetically, say you met your boyfriend’s mother and sister for the first time ever. Completely by accident. In the grocery store. And they convinced you to help them make a dinner to surprise aforementioned boyfriend when he got home after work. What would you do?”

Danny paused, and then, “Stiles, you don’t have a boyfriend.”

“That’s not the point! And I said hypothetically.”

“Stiles...what are you doing right now?”

    ***

Stiles never imagined he’d be in Derek’s kitchen cooking a surprise dinner with Derek’s family while they waited for Derek to get home from work.

Partly because their visit was a complete surprise.

But mostly because Stiles didn’t have a boyfriend.

Or even know who Derek was.

But he’d already come this far and Papa didn’t raise no quitter!

    Bookmarker's Notes

Some typo jank (lots of missing words) and some odd misused words - a 'picaresque' neighbourhood is a weird mental image, I'm not even sure how that would work - but I keep coming back to this one because the concept is an entertaining twist on the formula that I haven't seen anywhere else, and it's pulled off in a fun and charming way.

“No, no. That’s not– it’s just– this isn’t like a thing. It’s not like I’m offering to buy you a pizza for helping assemble some Ikea furniture.”

It's mating season and Derek has a bit of a problem he can only ask his best friend for help with. Only thing is, that problem's in his pants.

I keep coming back to this. Short and silly and yet sticks in my brain. Nobody else has done anything quite like it.

“Right, Charlie,” Mitchell says. “Your agent sent me through the scripts, but she was a little vague about the target accent. Do you know exactly what it is we’re aiming for? Beyond ‘British’.”
Just aim away from whatever the hell it was I did last time, Charlie thinks, and we’ll be golden.

When a perpetually panic-stricken Hollywood ingenu hires an uber-competent dialect coach, he's hoping for a crash course in Received Pronunciation and an urgent bit of brand rehabilitation. Instead, he gets an excruciating workplace crush and a head full of X-rated dreams. But he's an actor, right, so he'll probably be able to play it cool?

    Not bloody likely.
