Summary
Brendon had been on the swim team in high school and then undergrad, the source of his scholarship. She’d seen the pictures, knew where the Shark nickname came from, a joke for a boy who was sometimes a little too serious, a little too intense, a lifeguard who didn’t let things slide, the sharp sound of a whistle cutting through the air, the scolding in its full intensity towards parents twice his age who didn’t pay attention to their children’s fragile lives in the water.
His hands wrapped around her ankles as he reached the wall again, head popping above the water, all messy hair and a "hi" pressed into her kneecap. The tops of his shoulders were red and freckling from the sun.
“How was your day?”
“It was alright,” Samira told him, “I caught a heart attack.”
Park grinned.
“That’s my girl.” He slid his hands up her legs, thumbs rubbing at her hip bones through her shorts, “You should hop in, tell me all about it.”
. . .
Park misses Joy's arrival.
The pieces get picked up later.

Summary
Samira knew that sleep was a precarious proposition for Jack. He required an extensive combination of psychotropic medications and vitamins, a regimen of stretching, of practiced breathing, and a bed made tight enough to double as a straight jacket—what Jack had explained as "sleep hygiene"—to override the damage to his amygdala and manage even a few hours of contiguous sleep. By his own admission, deviation from this carefully crafted routine was a recipe for insomnia.
So, as Samira pulled the covers down from the palatial bed to the floor in an effort to make the bed to Jack's precise specifications, the change in texture of the flat and fitted sheets as well as the pillowcases, silky instead of their usual worn flannel, took her by surprise.
