The iron chain drags across the floor as Tyler moves around the kitchen. After so many years, he’s gotten used to the way it coils on the linoleum floor and wraps around furniture legs. Rumi ignored her chest squeezing.
“-A stunning girlfriend, Mira. I mentioned her, right? My girlfriend Mira-” The woman stopped abruptly and lowered her head down into her arms. “Jeez, Zoey, stop rambling at the deaf woman.” It was muffled, but Rumi heard it.
Silenced by grief, Rumi’s world is transformed when she crosses paths with Mira and Zoey, who guide her toward a voice she thought was lost forever.
