Ever since she was born, Nettles struggled to know who she was. Every night she had dreams of another world, a better one than the one she lived in. One filled with fantastical creations, with warmth and food aplenty... yet every morning, she woke to try and scrape together another day of survival on Driftmark. With each year that passed, she remembered more, until one day it all came crashing down upon her.
The Dance of the Dragons approached, and she refused to die alone in some forsaken mountain in the Vale. It was a fine vow for a girl to make, the trouble was she had no idea how to change her fate... and she would soon learn some things are better left in destiny's hands.

Summary
The Dance of the Dragons begins not with a death but with indecision. Lord Borros is not so quickly persuaded into war worrying about the right decision in the long run and this changes everything.
Luke and Aemond both stay in Storm’s End with hopes of getting the Lord to declare for their side, but with the return of their rivalry comes feelings they haven’t felt since their youth: inadequacy, jealousy, and something entirely new that makes trying to start a war the least of their problems.
Or: Luke and Aemond hate each other for trying to hurt their families until remembering they were once a family too.

Aemond rolled his eyes and snorted. “Think of it this way, they’re probably not even after you.”
“Mother seems to think so,” said Aegon.
“Our mother,” said Aemond. “Is in the unique position of both fearing for your well-being and also hoping it is in danger if only to have her ambitions vindicated,” he said. “Hers is not an unbiased opinion.”

Just because Aegon has no designs on the Iron Throne doesn't mean that the wider world is aware of that same fact. When a potential plot to assassinate the Heir to the Iron Throne is uncovered, there is question as to whether the true target is the king's daughter, or his son. To mitigate both threats, Aegon and Rhaenyra are sequestered away for their own protection to wait out the long, tense night.
