Summary
Picking up 5 years after the events of Breakaway, I'd Notice You is set during Breakfast with Scot and the years that follow. Retired NHL player turned sportscaster Eric McNally has been in a loving but discreet longterm relationship with Sam Miller. When a twist of fate sends a precocious and delightfully flamboyant orphan to their doorstep, Eric and Sam must navigate insta-parenthood.
From 2008–2016, Eric and Sam build a family. After they adopt Scot, they find that they can't stop... and end up with 5 children. It's queer joy and domestic chaos. Eric becomes an openly gay sportscaster narrates the rise of the on-ice rivalry between Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander, as he examines the narratives that the league imposes on its players, masculinity, repression, and legacy in hockey.
Full of fun moments from the colorful cast of characters, we get to see Nula and George tie the knot, Mildred's classic meddling, Ryan Burlington deface Miller/McNally property, an epic fistfight between Sam and Billy, Barbara Warren from Child Services calls again with a newborn, and Eric's mom reaches out to meet her grandkids.
The next installment will pick up in 2017 through the end of Heated Rivalry and The Long Game.

Shane scans the ice for his daughter’s jersey number. Ilya had been really smug about it when they brought it home. She has your last name, Hollander, he’d said, let her have my number if she wants. Is better, anyway.
“That one,” he says, pointing at the clump of white jerseys. “Number 81. Mila.”
“Oh you’re Mila’s dad!” The woman looks delighted. “I’m Maddie’s mom. Jane.”
She holds her hand out, and Shane has to bite back a grin. He takes her hand.
“Shane,” he says, shaking it. “Nice to meet you.”

Summary
In Episode 2 of Heated Rivalry (2025) during the 2011 All-Star Game, Scott Hunter overhears Ilya Rozanov whisper “1221” to Shane Hollander when Ilya thinks he’s being so subtle no one would notice. In 2014 after Shane attempts Baby’s First Insult, Scott hits him where it hurts by suggesting he knows something.
But these geniuses were never really subtle. They weren’t subtle before that All-Star Game and they weren’t subtle after it. The show didn’t have time to show it, but Scott saw them being dumb and obvious way more than that one scene implied. Here are the deleted scenes.

In the Cottage (episode 6), after David sees Shane and Ilya, Ilya offers to accompany Shane to talk to his parents. We know that having him there helps Shane through it. But it also probably helped Yuna.
If Shane showed up alone to have that conversation, it might have been a little bit harder for Yuna to believe it was all real. This is that AU.
