"What's the difference?" he asked, unwrapping the chocolate with undue care. Kurama wasn't sure if he was checking for poison or if he just was unfamiliar with wrappers.
"Milk chocolate is sweeter. Dark chocolate is more complex." He took the single piece from the center of the box and unwrapped it, inhaling the scent. "Bitter."
"Why would you purposefully eat something bitter?" Hiei’s lip curled in disgust. "Spoken like a demon who hasn't had to hunt for his dinner in years." He popped the chocolate in his mouth, a challenge dancing in his eyes.
Kurama ate his own more slowly, letting the flavor linger on his tongue. "Bitterness has its appeal. Let me show you."
Kissing Hiei was reckless, the same kind of impulse as standing at the edge of a tall building and imagining the jump. But Hiei kissed him back, dug his fingers into Kurama's hair and sank into it like the kiss would grant him eternity. His tongue swept through Kurama's mouth, carrying traces of sweetness.

"I know I do. That's exactly why I'm frustrated." Kurama swept a few more boxes into his basket, tallying up the amounts to make sure he would give back the exact same amount he had received and no more. "But I don't think of my 'soft heart' as a bad thing."
"I never said it was bad," said Hiei, in a surprisingly wounded tone. Kurama glanced at him, but Hiei was peering inside one of the chocolate boxes. Kurama snatched it before he could sample one and put it in his basket, off to the side of the others.
"The last thing you admire is a soft heart," said Kurama, after a moment. It wasn't quite what he meant, but he couldn't seem to figure out what he did mean, and it was as close as he could get. "You would be happier than anyone else if I stopped."
"Yes, but that's what I want, not what you want. And I want you to have the things you want." Hiei said this so quickly Kurama almost didn't understand, and he walked around the edge of the aisle, following the line of sweets, before Kurama could say anything.

"You know," Kurama said quietly, "I almost went along with your plan. Part of me wanted it so badly. I could have used the Forlorn Hope to transform myself back to my true form. Cast off this skin like old clothes."
Hiei's eyes narrowed further. "And then what? Would you have tried to kill me? Because you would be in for a rude awakening."
Kurama snorted. "No, Hiei, I wouldn't have killed you. Honestly, you're so quick to jump to violence as the first solution when there are many other ways to spend our time."
Hiei said nothing for a long moment, and Kurama realized the innuendo had genuinely gone over his head. It was almost endearing.
"I'm saying I would have fucked you again, Hiei. I may not have thrown in my lot all the way with yours, but we could have had a good time."
(AKA Five times Hiei and Kurama didn't talk about their feelings and one time they did.)
