Summary
It was the children who noticed it first; the presence that seemed to linger around the Sanctuary. They never got a good look at whoever - or whatever - it was; it seemed to always be at the periphery, disappearing before they could really get a look at it, like a ghost. So, that was what they called it: the Ghost.
Glowing eyes watching you from the darkest shadows. Name day gifts that had the adults acting strangely. Soft singing lulling the restless to sleep, or guiding the lost home. Those were all signs of the ghost. Every child at the Sanctuary knew it. That was all they knew, but it was enough, wasn't it?
