“Seems like my liege was caught in a situation where he’d rather the ground swallow him whole.” Pez nods towards a spot to the side, and Alex follows his gaze. He spots Henry easily – a tall lighthouse of tousled blond hair – talking to a girl who is clearly into him. His expression looks perfectly polite, but he’s subtly leaning away, and he looks tense.
So, Alex makes an impulsive decision.

Pitch-a-friend night is a bonkers concept.
There’s something genuinely horrifying about having your best friend who knows every single humiliating thing you’ve ever done hold a PowerPoint presentation about you at a bar. Let alone with the goal to convince people to date you. Henry has no explanation for why he’s here, except his best friend is Pez, and he supposes that’s explanation enough.

Pez had been there every hour. He watched Henry come out of sedation, disoriented, whispering words that made no sense—except one. A name he hadn’t said in years unless he said it through regretful tears.
“Alex.”
Pez swallows his pride. Sits on the hospital floor, knees to his chest, and starts calling. Twelve voicemails. Some of them he doesn’t remember leaving. Some of them he wishes he hadn’t.

Alex isn’t even sure what he is doing here. Sure, he has just been dumped or something and Bea didn’t want him to be alone, but it’s not like he has any interest in being a part of the fun. He isn’t exactly in their friends’ group; he is just Bea’s brother. And as much as Alex loves Bea, he viciously hates her brother. He is a stuck-up self-righteous prick who thinks he is better than anyone else, just because he is smart or whatever. And Alex isn’t even convinced that he actually is smart at all.
“Try to be nice, okay?” Alex overhears Bea talking to her brother as they enter the hotel lobby.
“Tell that to him.” Henry hisses, clearly gesturing towards Alex who casually flips him off with a fake smile plastered to his lips.
“Both of you!” Bea raises her voice which doesn’t happen all that often and Henry caves.
“I’ll behave.” He mutters in a low voice. “If he stops being an idiot.”___________________________________________
Alex and Henry hate each other. That much is clear to Alex. So, when Nora decides to make them share a room on their trip to Italy, Alex thinks she might have lost her mind. Afterall, there is no one worse than Henry Fox, to be forced to spend time with.
