    Edward doesn’t remember when they exchanged numbers. After the second time, he thinks, or maybe the third. It’s always a bit of a blur if he’s being honest, their time spent in liminal spaces that all feel the same even when they’re multiple states away from each other: motel rooms that feel like they’ve been transported to the 70s, or crammed together in the cab of one of their trucks, or once pressed together in a single stall shower at a truck stop, skin slick with water and sweat and ivory bar soap.

    What he does know is that when Sol texts, he answers.
