Summary
After everything, Bal asks Ambrosius for some space. Two months later, he asks for a favor.
‘This is my shampoo,’ Ambrosius realizes, when he picks it up, squeezing a measure of it into his hand, filling the air with the familiar scent of lavender. ‘Did you grab this from my place?’
‘Um, no,’ Bal says, eyes cutting away from him. ‘I bought it.’
It punches the air out of Ambrosius’s lungs. He wants to grab him by the shoulders, insist he explain. Do you buy your kind-of-but-not-really-at-the-moment partner’s shampoo brand because you’re planning on breaking up with them permanently and won’t get to borrow it anymore? Or do you buy it because you miss them?
Ambrosius falls asleep every night with his nose pressed into an old hoodie of Bal’s, unable to even try drifting off without the faint lingering scent of him. Is this like that, for Bal?

Summary
Faced with a lavish wedding neither he or Bal wants, Ambrosius makes a suggestion.
‘Hey,’ Bal says, gently breaking into his thoughts with a squeeze of his hand. ‘You’ve got that look on your face where you’re calm on the outside but inside you’re screaming at a million decibels.’
‘Sorry,’ Ambrosius says, every muscle in his body consciously relaxing. ‘I’m okay. Really.’
‘Your parents will be all right eventually.’ Bal draws his hand to his mouth and kisses the backs of his fingers. ‘Plus I think I said something earlier about facing whatever comes our way side by side, so if they’re not, I’ll be right there with you.’
‘That’s hardly fair,’ Ambrosius says. ‘This was my idea.’
Bal smiles at him. ‘And I said yes.’
‘You did.’ Ambrosius adjusts their hands so he can grip Bal’s wrist, then rolls on top of him, pinning his hand to the pillow. Voice low, he says, ‘You’re my husband.’
‘You’re mine,’ Bal breathes. ‘Got a nice ring to it.’

Summary
Almost a year after the wall came down, Bal considers how far he and Ambrosius have come.
He lets out a small, contented hum and Ambrosius snuffles sleepily at his neck.
‘What’re you thinking about?’ he murmurs.
‘Just that I feel good,’ Bal says softly. He lets go of Ambrosius’s hand, sliding his fingers back to touch his thigh instead. ‘Happy.’
He feels Ambrosius smile against his skin. ‘Me too,’ he whispers.
