It has been 15 years. Liam is a certified fucking adult at 21 years of age and he is a blessed one. As a young adult, he gets the rare view point of watching all his siblings grow up, deal with their crap, and still love the shit out of each other. But, he's worried about his older brother Ian. Ian, who has the best control, the bravest soul, and the most broken smile. He doesn't understand how Ian can have such complex facade. And now, just as he's planning to move away – apparently way too fucking far because Fiona bawled the first time he suggested it – he's going to man up and ask Ian why he always looked so perpetually lost. He's always searching for something, always grasping for something but never quite getting there. His siblings said that he had to ask Ian that himself and not to worry because Ian is still fine. So he finally asks, face to face, man to man. He's sort of nervous.
He doesn't expect Ian to draw up such a bittersweet smile at his question. “You don't remember him do you?” he asks, a finger idly curling around the chipped handle of the old Gallagher cock mug.
“Remember who?”
“Mickey,” Ian simply whispers as his shoulders sag slightly, “Mickey Milkovich.”
