Yuna had made checklists and organized budgets and shook coaches’ hands and learned how to negotiate and delegate and advocate, all in service of protecting and preserving Shane and this precious, enormous gift. There were a million ways for his journey to go wrong, and only one way for it to go right. She was competent, she was capable, she’d done everything right, everything by the book — and twenty years later, she feels like she didn’t rise to the moments that truly mattered.
