Summary
Mickey makes it 2 hours into his and Ian’s New Years Eve party before he feels the overwhelming urge to step out of the apartment and get a breath of fresh air.
The apartment is packed to the brim with family, friends and neighbors. Although it’s nothing close to their day to day, he’s not complaining about it.
He just needs a moment to himself to take it all in.
It had been Ian’s idea to celebrate the incoming year with more than just each other, but Mickey had been on board with it as soon as he had voiced the thought.

Summary
Mickey feels out of place the moment he steps into the building.
The expected silence of the room seems to only intensify the feeling of judgment he’s been drowning in for the past few weeks.
Even on the carpeted floor, his footsteps feel too heavy, and he cringes with every step he takes.There’s a librarian sitting at the circulation desk. She’s lost in her own book, but Mickey still finds himself shooting paranoid glances her way.
Franny doesn’t feel any of that same uneasiness and is content to pull books off the self, flip through them haphazardly and then put them back.
Or, a trip to the library and blueberry lavender ice cream.

Summary
If Lip were rational, he would just leave it at that. But, as he sits on the couch, in the apartment that his brother shares with the man he’s loved ever since he was 15, he can’t help but wonder about the details of a love that strong.
“So, what? You just shower together and don't fuck?" Lip asks in disbelief. “There’s no way."
Or, Ian and Mickey have been taking casual showers together for years. Lip will never understand why.

Ch1: When Ian really takes the time to think about it, it started back when him and Mickey were kids. Elementary school to be exact.
Ch2: Mickey still finds himself baffled by the fact that it started all the way back when they were kids.
Though, at the time he didn’t know what to make of it, looking back, he can see how much Ian cared even before they both knew what the word truly meant.Or, two 5+1s of Ian and Mickey showing each other love.

“It’s a good one,” he prefaces.

Ian clears his throat.
“When do you feel closest to me?” He reads out loud, his cheeks lifting into a smile.Or, 10 years, 10 questions, and so much love.

He knows how Mickey thinks. And even though, over the years, Mickey has unlearned so much of what was forced onto him growing up, at a time like this, when he’s feeling remarkably vulnerable, Ian knows his brain is telling him that that’s wrong.
That being vulnerable is in turn being weak, and being weak is never an option.

Summary
When Mickey and Ian look back on their relationship, there are more than enough stand-out moments. They’ve got years’ worth of memories and feelings between them. Things that only the two of them will ever know and understand.
There’s a love for each other there that neither of them could ever begin to put into words. Feelings that have only seemed to multiply since their wedding a little over a year ago.
And sure, sometimes it goes unspoken. It’s in the way Ian will bring Mickey breakfast in bed on a rainy day or the way Mickey will sit through hours and hours of World War 2 documentaries with Ian even though he absolutely despises them.
But other times it’s loud and it’s intentional.It’s the three simple words spoken out loud that are somehow able to encompass a surplus of feelings that are anything but simple.

“I said, who’s your best friend Uncle Mickey? I think Jade is mine, but it might be Leah, I can’t decide.”
Mickey shakes his head.
Leave it to Franny to be asking him about his best friend when it just so happens to be the one person he’s annoyed with right now.
“Uh, your Uncle Ian is my best friend,” he answers honestly, “he always has been.”
Or, Franny asks Mickey who his best friend is and there's only one answer he can think of.

I know you won’t let us leave until we renew our vows here or some shit.” He laughs at the idea, but it must not be too far off from what Ian was thinking in the first place because he looks like a lightbulb has gone off in his head and his face lights up with glee.
“That’s it! We never did write our own vows you know.” He’s suddenly standing up from the table and eagerly grabbing Mickey, almost tripping over his own feet to pull them in front of the bar. There’s a look of determination in his eyes and Mickey knows he’s not getting out of this no matter how hard he tries.
