The streets were dark, shrouded by the unforgiving walls of the canyon that boxed each side of the slums. Suffocating desert heat radiated from the dusty concrete, flushing Ruggie’s cheeks and beading sweat along the upside of his brow.
He clutched his side, the fabric of his t-shirt warm and sticky beneath his fingers. He’d have to throw the shirt away once he got home. If he got home. His feet may as well have been made of lead, every step was a struggle.
He stopped. Sucked in a breath through his teeth. Exhaled. He needed to do a better job of hiding the pain. His grandma would sooner sell her left foot than let him refuse a trip to the hospital. She might have to. The medical bills would be enough to put both of them out onto the streets.
Ruggie gets injured after a mugging over spring break and tries to hide it from everyone. It does not go well.

This is based on the plotline introduced in the latest X-Men run, where Magneto brings up Resurrection-Linked Degenerative Sickness and how it'll probably hit QQ like a truck, considering he's been resurrected by the five 19 times.
