These days, when Natasha thinks of Texas, she also thinks of Jake. She thinks of careworn burnt orange t-shirts and carelessly burnt pancakes because he kissed her too long. Kisses she loses herself in, touches she wishes she could bottle away for safekeeping. His fingers twined through hers, asleep in the middle seat so she can claim the window.

Taking it all in, he realizes it explains a lot about Natasha, that she grew up with the mountains and the sea and the sky as her backyard. Her thirst for adventure, her daring, her big hopes and uncompromising dreams were fed and nurtured by this expanse. Being here, seeing her with her friends and among the redwoods has unlocked another side of her—one he knew was there, but only just, and Jake is grateful for the chance to get to know this part of her.

Natasha Trace REALLY did not like Jake Seresin. She did not like him when they both started at USNA together. She did not like him when he accosted her in the rec room right before the winter break. She definitely didn't like him when he decided to play some tone-deaf prank and ask if she was adopted.
Except it turns out she was adopted.
She was adopted and so was Jake. Suddenly, it's looking more and more likely that she and Jake are long-lost twins.

There are many things in life that Bradley didn't expect. He never expected to be reunited with his godfather after cutting ties with him. He never expected to befriend the very people he fought against in TOP GUN. He didn't expect to participate in a suicide mission (he didn't expect to survive it, either). But the papers before him were something he never EVER considered happening to him. There was a 12-year-old kid out there, one who may not share Bradley's last name, but they share the same blood.
