Summary

By now, the group of young recruits will be boarding the ship. They’ll be paired off and shown to their small rooms and the Arcadian UA will leave Earth for an undetermined amount of time. They’ll be full of excitement, at least at first, but Aizawa will watch the excitement drain from their faces as reality sets in.

Enji exhales slowly, but his gaze remains fixed on the burn, angry and red, skin blistering as he covers it up carefully. This is not the first time, and they both know it won’t be the last. For a moment, Touya has all of his attention until the soft cries start from inside the house. The baby who always seems to need something. Enji lifts his gaze, hands stilling on Touya’s arm.
Touya clenches his jaw and pouts a little when he notices Enji’s attention has been divided now.
“There’s nothing to be sorry about, Touya,” Enji says finally. “But you need to be careful. You know better, don’t you?”
He always asks questions like that, ones that aren’t really questions at all. Even at nine, Touya knows that there’s a right answer and a wrong one, and neither of them has anything to do with the truth.

Shinsou sighs, longer and with more suffering, as he walks past Yamada to head into the living room. The Shinsou bot is sitting upright on the couch, his head tilted forward and eyes closed. He looks so lifeless and it makes Shinsou shiver. He stops in front of… himself, before he slowly drags his gaze towards Aizawa with subtle weariness. The look he gives him is one of full judgement, almost as if he’s saying what have you done now, you dirty old man?

“I said I’m awake,” Midoriya snaps, but when he looks up, the battlefield is gone. Instead of the ruined rubble of Shigaraki’s decay, he’s staring up at the panels on the ceiling, faint with water stains. There’s the quiet drip of something just outside the room, a far cry from the roar of the battle he’s just come from.
His body no longer screams in pain, though there is a strange hollowness in his chest, a phantom ache echoing through his bones. Panic rises immediately and he bolts upright, only to freeze when he notices the room around him.
It’s… an office.
Or the one where Midoriya wakes up in the Musutafu State Hospital for the Mentally Unwell only to discover nothing was real.

Summary
Something moves within the water, too fast and too large to be a shark or a whale. Something obsidian and iridescent, reflecting off the setting sun. Aizawa leans over the edge, scanning the waves for a sign of movement. It’s brief. A flash of pale beauty that’s all wrong, too sharp, too vivid. Then it appears again. A mess of sea-salt tangled lavender hair, mouth curled into a soft smile. Violet eyes, sharp as purple-fluorite meet his for an instant before the face vanishes beneath the swell of the next wave.
Aizawa’s breath leaves him. “Someone’s in the water…” he whispers, more to himself. Only the gulls answer, crying loudly. Whoever it was is gone, swallowed by the ocean waves that roar once more, then still.
Three days later, the wind dies. The sea is as smooth as glass, the sky an endless expanse of blue. Even the gulls have ceased their songs. The sea is calm.
The ship drifts and Aizawa does not sleep. He feels watched. He tosses and turns in his cabin as the quiet of the sea rocks the vessel.

“Nice decorations,” Shinsou says amused. “I didn’t peg you as the type, Sensei.”
Aizawa gives him a long, unimpressed once-over. “You came dressed as yourself? That’s not very creative, Hitoshi.” But he speaks with a kind of fondness that’s become familiar over the years.
Shinsou only grins wider and walks closer to Aizawa. “Maybe I was trying to impress someone,” he replies smoothly.
Aizawa’s brow arches. “Eri’s not here. She’s out with Mirio and Midoriya. Figured it would be more fun for her that way since they both still act like children.”
“I wasn’t talking about Eri,” Shinsou grins, stepping closer. “Thought maybe I’d swing by and see if my favourite mentor was giving out any special treats tonight.”
