Books tumbled from the shelf behind him, hitting the floor with dull thuds.
Edgeworth loomed over him, so close Phoenix could see the flicker of firelight reflected in his eyes—remnants of the human he'd been, frozen in time. His breath came shallow, uneven, though he didn't need to breathe at all. His fangs had descended—slender and gleaming like polished ivory.

Robert felt Beef's weight in his lap, warm and safe. When he opened his eyes, Chase was there, only something was wrong. Chase's face grew more distressed when he saw that Robert had woken up.
"Kid, I... Fuck, you almost died there."
There was something Chase still hadn't told him, but he thought he'd notice soon. Something felt wrong with his body.

Robert lost his leg after the explosion in chapter 6, Sonar pays for his hospital debt and starts feeling a connection to robert, he starts taking care of him while he recovers. maybe he's falling in love for the first time.
