Esca’s lip curls, eyes crinkling with humor. Despite the heat coursing through Marcus’s body, the smile strikes him as cold. “Do you not know?”
“I know what you were doing,” Marcus snaps. “I do not know why you were doing it. Explain yourself.”
Cocking his head, Esca asks, “Have you never had a body slave before? Domine?”

He is tidying his drawers and socks into the wardrobe, idly wondering if that is a spell Edwin might be able to conjure up—a curtain of sorts that would allow them true privacy—when he hears a gasp. Not from the direction of the door that leads out into the hallway, but instead from the opposite corner of the room, between the fireplace and the window. A corner—he is almost completely certain of this—that used to very much be an ordinary wall. Solid, lined in the same dark green wallpaper set into wooden panels as the rest of the room.
A wall that is now, instead, sporting a wide open archway.
