Summary
Shortly after the battle against Adam, Lucifer discovers the deal Charlie made with Alastor. He confronts Alastor, but Alastor refuses to remove the deal. Instead, he offers to transfer Charlie's obligations to Lucifer instead. Unwilling to allow Charlie to be trapped in a deal with the Radio Demon, Lucifer agrees, taking on his daughters deal. The favor Alastor wants? Protection. Lucifer figures it will be simple enough, but as Alastor and the king navigate the constraints of the deal, the realm around them falls under threat and they learn that they might just have to work together beyond the ties that bind them. But what neither of them expects is for desire to draw them closer, a desire that carries with it the hope and freedom they've both been craving all along.

“Great job, Dad!” Charlie said cheerfully, clapping her hands together in front of her chest. “Now you go, Alastor.”
“Why, thank you for your nice words, your Majesty! In return, I would like you to know that I am quite fond of your hat. It really serves to highlight your… great personality.”

To keep them from trying to commit verbal homicide every time they are in the same room, Lucifer and Alastor are forced to compliment each other as a measure to improve their relationship.

Summary

Thousands of years later, Wei Ying and Lan Zhan have a senior thesis in cultivation to co-write on the Yiling Patriarch. It doesn’t go exactly how they were expecting.

But maybe he can swing a smile. “It’s because of the name thing. He wrote his name into the scrambling talisman. So it says that no one can undo the lock but Wei Ying.” He hooks a thumb at himself.
Everyone’s always said his name is unlucky. This is the first time it’s worked out in his favor. It’s not a coincidence either; apparently his mother thought it would be funny. Mrs. Yu had told him that with a curl in her lip, as if it didn’t make him wish he knew his parents even more.

Shen Qingqiu folded his arms around the trembling boy, his sleeves flowing about him like a blanket. “Silly child,” he whispered, head dipping down until his cheek rest on Binghe’s wild hair, blowing around them in a mane of curls from the hot wind that gusted upwards from the inferno of the Endless Abyss. “Your shizun would never make you face such terrors alone.” He took a deep breath, squeezed the youth tighter, his own hands shaking ever so slightly, the only betrayal of his cool composure. “But this master has no choice but to take you to your fate.”
And then he tipped himself, and Luo Binghe in his arms, over the edge of the cliff.

“Why do you wear that collar?” the witcher asks.
Jaskier startles. He’s been fiddling with it, he realises, a nervous habit. He didn’t think the witcher had noticed, even though those golden eyes seem to spot most things.
“It’s so people know what I am,” he says.
“And what are you?” the witcher says. His tone has turned surprisingly gentle. Perhaps he can hear the misery in Jaskier’s voice.
“Bound in service,” Jaskier explains. He tries on a smile. “It might not look like it, but I’m as much of a prisoner as you are.”
Jaskier didn’t exactly plan to escape from his master alongside a terrifying witcher. But it might turn out to be one of his better decisions.
